Physics Story Games
Reading a textbook often feels like being told a series of unrelated, unintuitive facts.
Physics shouldn’t be this way, though. Physics has practical, real-world applications!
Not only does learning through a story make concepts immediately more fun and engaging, but it grounds physics knowledge in actual applications.
Below you’ll find a series of illustrated interactive stories that teach concepts through engaging narratives and fun puzzles to encourage engagement and critical thinking.
The Case of the Seven Reflections:
A Fairy Detective Optics Mystery
A princess has come to you, the most famous fairy detective, for help. Her friends, the seven dwarves, unearthed an enormous emerald, but it was stolen that same night.
The thing is, each of the dwarves witnessed the crime, but none of them can agree on what the thief looked like!
You immediately realize this is because each dwarf saw the intruder in a different type of mirror.
You’ll need to learn how these mirrors work (by questioning the queen’s famous looking glass) and piece through the testimonies of the dwarves in a tricky logic puzzle to determine who committed the crime!
The Sorceress of Circuits:
A Steampunk Electricity Adventure
In this interactive story, you play an adventurer travelling across a strange land.
You meet an enthusiastic inventor and her friend the tinker-bug who are in need of your help.
Their mentor, the Sorceress of Circuits, has been kidnapped, and their castle full of electrical inventions has been sabotaged by the nefarious Professor Watt.
As you read through the story, you'll encounter challenges and puzzles which slowly and intuitively build an understanding of electricity.
The full game introduces these topics:
Positive and Negative Charge
Conductors and Insulators
Current, Voltage, and Resistance
Simple Circuits with Batteries and Bulbs
Parallel and Series
The foundation of Ohm's law, but without the math.
Playable on laptop or desktop! The demo may work on a phone, but the formatting will be wonky!!
Significant Figures: An Interactive Science Story
You’ve infiltrated the library, now to regain your powers… (and practice significant figures).
This is a short story game I made to help students learn, understand, and practice the fundamentals of significant digits.
In the game, you play a potentially nefarious wizard attempting to regain the powers that were taken from you by an order of librarians.
How far will you go to regain your powers, and what will you do with them once you’ve got them?
